Search Engine Marketing: It Is Time to Throw in the Towel!
I already know what you are thinking. There is no way I am giving up on content marketing. You probably think there is too much money to be made. On the other hand, you might believe in your search engine marketing. Or it could just be that you are fundamentally opposed to quitting.
But You Should Quit. You Need to Quit.
Or, you need to quit trying to rank above websites that you can’t beat. You see, every website has a number assigned to it, a number is given by Google, a number from 0 to 10, a number called a PageRank. Websites with lots of statuses, like Wikipedia or Apple’s website, have a high PageRank. The book SEO Success notes:
The type of websites ranking for a keyword are essential to making or breaking your SEO efforts. If low PageRank websites are standing boldly in the top 10 results, it’s your turn to knock them out of the game and snag your own spot. If Wikipedia and government websites are ranking for your keyword, there is no way you can even come near them.
So what can you do? It’s pretty simple. You need to target different keywords than the really big guys. There are a lot of keywords out there related to your niche, keywords with hundreds, thousands, and even more searches a month. Writing an article, the process of content marketing takes work. If you want to rank on the first page for a keyword, if you want that work to pay off, make sure the heavy-hitters aren’t there first.
